Henry Wolfe and Eleni Mandell at IOTA

Merrijoy July 24, 2012 DC Live, events, News No Comments

The singer-songwriters from Los Angeles were the spotlights last Thursday night at IOTA in Arlington.

Henry Wolfe opened the night with a set that showcased his strong, talented songwriting capabilities. He played a mix of some old, some new, a Randy Newman cover, and track off of his latest record Linda Vista like Used to Be, The Third Act (in which he introduced as a song he thought about at a wedding through the line “If you’re thinking of leaving, then you’re already gone”), and closing out the set with his most popular single off the record, Someone Else. Through a microphone, guitar, and harmonica, you’ve got one very talented singer-songwriter in Henry Wolfe.

Eleni Mandell closed the show putting the latest record, I Can See the Future, on blast. Mandell shared that she wanted to have a chart of all the men that have inspired her songwriting but unfortunately for us, that was not a part of the show. Instead we got to listen to the songs inspired by said men to which a member of the crowd yelled out, “Tell us about the republican!” which resulted in Mandell sharing that she did, indeed, date a republican. Mandell said she wanted to be funny and when she wasn’t singing, her dry sense of humor was indeed funny. Great sets by both artists.

See our photos below from the show.
