Track of the Day: Aabaraki – DanceShee

Merrijoy July 25, 2012 in our ears, News No Comments

Our Track of the Day is “DanceShee” by one of our Featured Artists, Aabaraki. The crazy origin of DanceShee is this from the band, “So the history of DanceShee is kind of odd. We were in a gig down in the Caribbean where we were doing something of a residency. So night after night we’d be playing our tunes for whoever came into the bar and, as with any vacation destination, there are all types of people.

One night during the late set there was a woman who came in already utterly drunk. She seemed to have come in with a guy but immediately she took to the dance floor and started dancing with every single person (male or female) who would take her. And it seemed they all would. As the set progressed, she got drunker and wilder. Started dancing with two and three folks at a time. Making out with some of her partners ON the dance floor.

Finally, at one point our lead singer, Akie Bermiss, got up from the keyboard during a guitar solo to get a drink and while he was away she hit the apex of her wildness and went careening into the keyboard, knocking it off the stand and almost to the floor. Almost, if not for the quick reactions of the rest the band who each seemed to leap over their instruments and get a hand on the keyboard before it fell.

There was silence. drunken apologetics. And once we put the keys back we only had a few minutes left in the set. So we went into a jam and over it Akie began singing, ‘she wants to dance / with anyone who can dance / anyone who’s handsome enough to understand / she needs a helping hand / and the world be damned.’

And DanceShee was born.”
