Featured Shows of the Week! August 20

Screen Vinyl Image @ Black Cat

Screen Vinyl Image sound like Suicide, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and My Bloody Valentine with just a touch of John Carpenter thrown in for good measure. That’s a recipe I can get behind.

Les Rhinocéros @ Rock and Roll Hotel

The young band Les Rhinocéros delivers a crazy world in sound. The trio of teenagers was formed in 2008 while the playerswere still in high school, and has developed since then into an intense and wildly imaginative group that takes music to its extremes. Emotional, minimalistic, intense and grooving, this is music that goes beyond imagination to the edges of sanity.

Ms. Director @ Black Cat

Just four music addicts from DC writing music they love. All former members of Cedars/Cartel.

Black Dog Prowl @ Rock and Roll Hotel

Black Dog Prowl is screaming guitars, door-busting drums, driving bass and powerful vocals. Think of the musical lovechild of Led Zeppelin and Soundgarden combined with the vocal styling of Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison.

Gritty vocalist and guitarist Josh Finver fronts this Washington, D.C., based four-piece that features Robert Peters on lead guitar and an explosive rhythm section made up of bassist Schuyler Allen and drummer Enzo Ferroggiaro. Though the band takes inspiration from rock pioneers that have come before, Black Dog Prowl has a sound that is very much its own and a high-energy live show that is among the best the nation’s capital has to offer.

Cheyne @ DC9

Having already supported such national acts as J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flames, Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, Grieves & Budo, Rebel Gang, The Rej3ctz, and many more, all inside of 2011, he’s connecting with a larger fan base and growing as a performer. On his records, the goal for him was to work with producers he respected and whose work he connected with. On his first release he worked with producers like Black Diamond (Nikes on my feet- Mac Miller), Adjectives, I.V. and more. With an unrelenting work ethic and a new approach to hip hop. Cheyne is having more fun than he ever has, and its something that you can see in his work.

Justin Jones @ Iota

“In 2010, I was the first artist signed to 9:30 Records in Washington, DC and released a collection of songs I called The Little Fox EP.  Since that time, I have been fortunate to perform with Ray LaMontagne, K.D. Lang, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Drive-By Truckers and Badly Drawn Boy.”
