The Dum Dum Girls at Ottobar

Merrijoy October 26, 2012 events, News No Comments

The style was brought to Baltimore this past Wednesday night as California’s Dum Dum Girls swung by for a sweet night of music. After seeing them (or hearing them afar from a huge crowd) at Osheaga in Montreal, I absolutely fell in love with them. It was unfortunate for their festival set though, as technical difficulties kept them from playing more than a handful of songs. But it was my chance to finally see them play a full set in its entirety at Baltimore’s Ottobar. The girls in black went right into “Mine Tonight” the first track off of their latest EP End of Daze and continuing right into “He Gets Me High” from the 2011 EP of the same name, thus setting the tone for their set for the night. The set was well-rounded playing much of the new tracks as well as the older ones. Man, did I love hearing “Bedroom Eyes” live. As for performance, there was a feeling of mystery that fits so perfectly with the band’s stage presence. Whether it’s the way the girls swayed together while starting off the next song or the confidence that flows directly through leader Dee Dee Penny, the crowd at the Ottobar was loving it. They came to play music and that’s exactly what they did, no goofing around or wasting time. I loved that about them.
